I think we all struggle with striking the right tone, especially since blogging in particular is emotions based and we usually blog right after reacting to something. That's why self-awareness helps as a writer, at some point you have to step back and say yeah some people may like this side of me, but do I like it? And it isn't helping me reach the type of reader I want? Yes, people really do seem to like it and it just encourages people to do more of it. And I've been grappling with my tone on certain issues, that involve things or people that don't agree with. Now, I will always be "me," often times sarcastic, facetious, etc.. However, I know it's a matter of maturity (and insecurity), and I need to be able to stand on my beliefs, while limiting the unnecessary snark. It's very true that those who persistently practice snark in their work, or even tweets come off as negative. Oddly, that's what people seem to like.
